- 917 Fleming Street By 1965, when the county property appraiser took this photo, the Overseas Hotel had already witnessed a lot of Key West history. Possibly named to complement Henry Flagler's "Over-Sea Rail Road," the hotel was actually called the Oversea in the 1925 guidebook, Key West Florida - The Paradise of America. A color postcard from the 1940s identifies the property as the Overseas Hotel. And that's what it was in 1965, when a gentleman occupied a chair on the front porch right next to the American flag on the morning the property appraiser arrived to document the property for the tax rolls. |
