Sample Caption: Restoring each photo took at least a week. Linda adjusted levels to even out the dark areas, light areas and sun flares. She sharpened each image without distorting the details. Often, line by line, she had to clean up decorative gingerbread and window frames. And there was often a big inked "X" to dispose of, as in the 1965 picture of the Overseas Hotel at 917 Fleming Street ("X"s were applied when a building was later destroyed or torn down.) The '65 photo shows a fading old dowager of a building, with a gentleman relaxing on her porch and an "open" sign in the restaurant window. But so much of what there is to see is lost to damage - both chemical and human. Restored, the hotel regains both its loveliness and pride.
